Join us for a special presentation “Heart Disease in South Asians: What does new research show?” with speaker Dr. Alka Kanaya, UCSF Professor of Medicine

Why do South Asians have elevated rates of heart disease? What are novel risk factors for South Asians and how can we lessen this risk?

Dr. Kanaya is the Principal Investigator of the MASALA Study, aimed at understanding why South Asians have higher risk of heart disease. MASALA has collected extensive clinical and lifestyle data on South Asians in the Bay Area. Results of this research help understand lifestyle, cultural, and genetic contributions to heart disease for South Asian populations and how we can curb this risk.
