What is Heart Disease?

Heart disease refers to a scope of diseases that affect your heart such as coronary artery disease, heart rhythm problems, and heart defects you're born with. Although heart defects cannot be prevented, you can still prevent other types of heart disease by avoiding smoking, regulating blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes, staying physically active, eating healthy, managing stress, and practicing good hygiene. Learn more about heart disease.

What is Type 2 Diabetes?

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder characterized by high blood glucose levels that exists as a consequence of the body's inability to produce enough or any insulin. There are three main types of diabetes: Type 1, Type 2, and gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy). The most common of the three types is Type 2 diabetes. In order to prevent diabetes, you should change your diet, increase your physical activity, and maintain a healthy weight. Learn more about diabetes

Diabetes prevention program for South Asians: STOP-D

Program by El Camino Health’s South Asian Heart Center was created to stop diabetes before it starts for those with pre-diabetes, and to reverse or stop progression in those with diabetes.
